Update to my last review of Dr Kumar. After leaving my reviews I received a call from their office manager Jessica I explained to her doctor did not ever even go over my x-rays that he ordered when I went for my second appointment. Even after showing him my allergy list on my first appointment he had a cortisone shot sitting on the desk during my second appointment that he was going to give me in my hand. I had to ask him what was in the injection. When he told me it was cortisone I brought up my portal from my family PCP where the first medication on my allergy list is cortisone with notes from the doctor stating that last time I was given a cortisone injection to my back It triggered a TIA. After he read this a second time he told me they would be no cortisone shot given. He gave me an EMG test and told me the results of which I already knew. Then he proceeded to tell me again that there was no other medication he could give me without even looking at the list of medications on my portal that do work for me. During my call with Jessica I told her all of this she actually couldn't believe that the doctor didn't even go over my x-rays. She asked me what I was looking for!! Obviously I was looking for help but that didn't matter what I wanted didn't matter what would help me didn't matter. Instead she put me on hold then came back on the phone and asked me if I'd ever taken a medication called amitriptyline. I told her I had not and I also told her that I was very hesitant of taking any new medications. They sent a prescription to the pharmacy for this medication. This is foremost an antidepressant medication and also researching this medication It is not a medication that is good for chronic pain. Studies on this have not consistently shown a statistically significant reduction in pain at 6 months even though some data suggest it may help reduce disability in the short term at 3 months. I also know that I have osteoarthritis and this medication shows that there is little high quality evidence to support its use for OA and related joint pain some trials even suggested no significant pain reduction. It seems like I was given this medication just to shut me up. I will not be taking this medication until I see my PCP at the end of this month. They also didn't even bother to ask anything about my menopause or anything like that because amitriptyline also causes weight gain and other issues that I am already dealing with with my PCP because of menopause. Again when I was seeing my previous PM doctor he bothered to look at my allergies and then further through my portal to the medications that do work for me and help me until surgery becomes an absolute necessity and he concurred with my PCP that we would have been best off continuing the medication that I was on which did help me. He monitored that. I saw him every 3 months, I took my urine test, and he actually took time to speak to me during each visit to ask me how the dosage was working, if I found myself taking more or less, if the pain was any better worse dollar shopper etc. If only he didn't close his practice in honesdale to concentrate on working solely within the hospital itself I wouldn't feel like I was being treated like many of us feel. Like some type of seekers and not worth their precious time. Pain management doctors will put into place to do just that manage patients pain on a level at which some primary care physicians were taking advantage of. Now pain management doctors have kowtowed to the pressures outside and would rather turn their patients away or throw unwanted or substandard medications at them just so the DEA doesn't look up their name God forbid and see that they are trying to do right by their patients. Pain management doctors have become absolutely useless. Either this doctor has been questioned or accused in the past of overprescribing opioids so now real patients suffer or he just doesn't care about the oath that he took to become a pain management doctor. I am going to continue on with my complaint to the state of Pennsylvania. I am not one of those people who is not going to fight for their health. I have a home to take care of I have an elderly mother that I care for and many other things in my life that I cannot stop doing just because of the pain I am in and because doctors like this refuse to help

I wasn't going to leave this review, but after stewing quietly about this since my second and last appt. this past Friday, I need to speak even if only the people reading this review actually listen to me because the doctor sure did not!! I was referred to this doctor by my PCP. Last month I went for my first appt. & at that time I did show the doctor my patient portal because I have an extensive list of allergies to medications. I wanted this to be upfront right away. He took my cell phone & I ASSUMED he looked at this. He did a half-ass first examination & asked me what my problems were & I told him everything. He gave me an order to get an x-ray done of my hands because that is one of the problems I am having with pain. He had not yet addressed my back issues, which I already know the diagnosis for. He did not address the issue with my leg or knee or feet which I also know the diagnosis for. He gave me an appointment for this month September 2025 & told me at that time he would like to do an EMG & a trigger shot to my middle finger on my right hand & he gave me an order for x-rays. I left his office & immediately went to the X-ray center & had the x-rays done. Fast forward to Friday September 19th. I went in for my 2nd appt. & this time I actually printed out the list of my medication allergies as well as the notes listed under the allergies from my PCP. I was a little worried leading up to the appointment about this trigger shot he wanted to put into my hands as cortisone is one of my allergies. Back in 2019 I had cortisone shots done to my back & it led to me having a TIA. I brought my husband with me because he was actually the one who found me that day after I had a TIA. We went into the office he had me undress and he did the EMG on only my legs. When I noticed that there was a needle on the counter I questioned him as to what kind of shot he would be giving me in my hands & when he told me that it was a cortisone shot I asked him if he remembered reading my chart of allergies the last time I was there & he did not answer so I gave him the papers that I printed out. He briefly glanced over them and said to me & I quote "well then we will definitely not be giving you any sort of shot in your finger". He continued on with the EMG to my legs & concluded that I have, & please I may be wrong in saying this, but he said I have paresthetica myalga. Not once did he ever bring up the results from my hand x-rays. He told me my only option is surgery & again I guote " There is absolutely nothing I can do for you". I cannot help u because u r allergic to EVERY MEDICATION for pain that would help u"!!! Lyrica and cymbalta are both on my list of allergies as my doctor had tried everything previously before putting me on the pain medication that I am currently on that works for me. For him to come to the conclusion that my only option is surgery & for him to tell me that of all the medications that are out there He literally cannot give me any other medication, especially the one that I am currently on, which he never even brought up is absolutely insane!!!! Not to mention as we were sitting there in the office I was staring at a poster on the wall with some type of injectable pain medication that I am assuming he is promoting people to try, He never even brought that up to me. NOT ONE OPTION. NEVER did he ask me if my current medication WAS HELPING ME!!! My previous pain management physician, who is very much more well-known than Dr Kumar had even agreed with my PCP that my current medication was suitable for me & he did continue to keep me on that medication until recently when he closed his office to just continue working within the hospital that his office was a part of in honesdale. I guess that the patient just does not matter anymore. What works for us does not matter anymore! We do not get to choose what makes us feel better. They act as if they know our lifestyle & what we put up with on a day-to-day basis in our homes & with our families & the chores & the work that we do. Our choices have been taken away from us by doctors exactly like him who tell you that it is either their way or the doorway. I don't know if what he did was illegal or against medical standards but I will be calling the Pennsylvania medical association tomorrow to ask them. If this is reportable I will be reporting him. I should have a say in my medical care. I will not be forced into having a surgery that will do me more harm than good. I have had three other doctors in fields that cover my issues tell me that surgery at my age is a last ditch effort & that I should not even consider it until I am well in my sixties or there are no other options. Before I end this I just want everyone to know the only reason this got one star beside the fact that I have to choose one is Dr Kumar's staff is amazing. The women that I encountered at the front desk & the nurses in the back are some of the nicest people I have met. On my first appointment I met one of the nurses in the room when she came to take my information & she told me that being a patient with Dr Kumar will consist of trying physical therapy along with medication & she even thought that was a ridiculous practice because sometimes physical therapy does more harm than good as well, but I honestly was willing to try the physical therapy. So to the ladies in the office Thank you for being so kind to me. I honestly wish that I remembered to ask you to give me a copy of the results of my x-rays & a copy of the EMG that was given to me that day as well as a report written by Dr Kumar stating that he can no longer help me & that surgery is my only option. At least my husband was in the room to witness everything that he said.

I have had a couple of procedures by Dr. Kumar and have been completely satisfied with the results. I am very afraid of needles and he has been so great with me by letting me know what he is doing and when he injects. Procedures were completely painless and my osteoarthritis in my shoulder has greatly improved. If you want a great doctor try Dr. Kumar. He has been a Godsend to me. His office staff is super nice compassionate people just like him.

Dr. Kumar and his office staff have been a true blessing. His knowledge of my condition and help regardless finding the best treatments for me have been life saving. His office staff is by far the friendliest and most helpful medical office staff I have ever encountered. Suffering for years with my condition, Dr. Kumar introduced me to the Nevro Spinal cord stimulator and my quality of life has improved significantly! I cannot thank him enough.

Dr. Kumar is a very caring & qualified MD. He also has a great sense of humor. Although not crazy for injections in the neck or back, I admit that they do help.
